About Mellow Away
Mellow Away started after a family trip where the hotel promised “accessible rooms” and delivered a bathroom with a 30cm step. One grandmother, two small children and a week of careful improvising later, we decided somebody should write this down properly.
We are a small editorial team that travels the way our readers do: three generations, one trip, mixed abilities and mixed patience levels. Every resort in the directory is tagged against the same checklist so you can compare like for like.
We check the awkward details
Step heights, shower lips, lift widths and how far it is from the car park to reception. The things that decide whether a holiday is restful or exhausting.
Both ends of the age range
A stay only makes the directory if grandparents and grandchildren can both enjoy it — not one at the expense of the other.
No paid placements
Nobody can buy a listing or a better position. Some booking links earn us a commission, at no extra cost to you.
Asia, region by region
Taiwan first, because it combines excellent healthcare, gentle food and short distances. Japan and Malaysia are next.
How a listing is built
- 1. Shortlist. We start from resorts that claim step-free access or family facilities in a region.
- 2. Verify. We check the property's own material, call the front desk about specifics and cross-read recent guest reports.
- 3. Tag. Each confirmed feature becomes a filter tag, so a search for “zero-step entry” returns only stays we have confirmed it for.
- 4. Revisit. Listings are reviewed as reader reports come in. Tell us when something has changed.
Get in touch
Corrections, listing suggestions and trip questions are all welcome. The fastest way to help other families is to leave a review of somewhere you have stayed.
